Alaska Airlines

Boeing (NYSE: BA) and hometown partner Alaska Airlines celebrated the first 737 featuring Boeing's new Space Bins, which increase the room for carry-on baggage by 48 percent. Alaska is the launch customer of Space Bins.
"Alaska is relentlessly focused on making the travel experience better," said Sangita Woerner, Alaska Airlines vice president of marketing. "We've been on a mission to improve our cabin experience for several years and Space Bins are part of a $150 million investment we've made to make flying more comfortable and enjoyable. By the end of 2017, nearly half of our fleet will have larger bins to accommodate a carry-on bag for virtually every customer."
Alaska will take delivery of 34 Next-Generation 737s and one 737 MAX in the next two years and will also begin retrofitting 34 aircraft with the Boeing Sky Interior, primarily 737-900ERs (Extended Range), in 2016.
Each Space Bin stows six bags, two more than the current pivot bins installed on Next-Generation 737s with the Boeing Sky Interior. That's based on a standard size carry-on bag measuring 9 in x 14 in x 22 in (23 cm x 36 cm x 56 cm).
"We work closely with our customers to continuously enhance their airplanes so they can offer great passenger experiences," said Brent Walton, manager of 737 Interiors New Features for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We have a strong record of delivering value with innovative interior features like bigger bins that help reduce passenger anxiety about overhead storage and provide a better travel experience."
When open, the bottom edge of a Space Bin hangs about 2 inches (5 centimeters) lower, so travelers can lift their carry-on bags more easily. The deeper bins allow more bags to be stowed and increase visibility into the back of the bins. Alaska Airlines also reports that the Space Bins, designed without a flight attendant bin assist mechanism, are easier to close.
Alaska Airlines is installing Space Bins on all its 737-900ERs and 737 MAX aircraft currently on order and by 2017 will have 69 airplanes, or 46 percent of its passenger fleet, outfitted with Space Bins.
Boeing's Space Bins are available as an optional feature on in-production Next-Generation 737s and 737 MAXs. Space Bins are also available for retrofit on in-service Next-Generation 737s.

Boeing Celebrates Delivery of Oman Air's First 787 Dreamliner

787 Dreamliner presence in Middle East continues to grow

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Oman Air celebrated the delivery of the airline's first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline ordered six 787-8s in November 2011 as part of its expansion plans.
"We are delighted to receive our first Dreamliner which combined with Oman Air's award-winning service will provide an excellent travel experience for our customers," said Paul Gregorowitsch, Chief Executive Officer, Oman Air. "Our decision to invest in this game-changing airplane underlines our confidence in the 787 and the value it will add in terms of reliability, operational efficiency and comfort."
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an all-new, super-efficient family of commercial airplanes that brings big-jet ranges and speed to the middle of the market. In response to airlines' overwhelming preference, Boeing designed the 787 family with superior efficiency, which allows airlines to profitably open new routes to fly people directly where they'd like to go in exceptional comfort. Since entering service in 2011, the 787 family has opened more than 50 new non-stop routes around the world.  Oman Air has announced that it will deploy its first Dreamliner on services to Saudi Arabia and Europe.
"We're proud to have Oman Air join our growing base of 787 customers in the Middle East and around the world," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. "Our partnership with Oman Air dates back almost 15 years during which time the airline has been operating the 737 family. We're delighted to help introduce Boeing twin-aisle airplanes into its growing fleet."
Boeing currently has eight 787 customers in the Middle East with a total of 175 Dreamliners ordered and 140 in backlog.  Boeing has also been contracted by Oman Air for a suite of services to support the upcoming entry into service of its 787 Dreamliners and to ensure ongoing efficiency and cost savings for its fleet. These services will help Oman Air minimize the time and cost of maintenance while increasing airplane availability.

LOW VISIBILITY PROCEDURE

FLATULENCIAS A BORDO

Boeing Begins Final Assembly of First 737 MAX

Boeing [NYSE: BA] employees in Renton, Wash., have started final assembly on schedule of the first 737 MAX 8, the first member of Boeing's new, more efficient single-aisle family.
"We continue to meet our plan on the 737 MAX program thanks to the dedication of our employee team and our suppliers," said Keith Leverkuhn, vice president and general manager, 737 MAX program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We have a lot more work still ahead of us but we're very pleased with our progress to date."
After the first fuselage arrived on Aug. 21 from Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita, Kan, mechanics began installing flight systems and insulation blankets.
"It's an honor. There is only one crew that gets to be that first crew that builds that airplane. I'm really excited," said Sean Christian, 737 MAX Electrical team lead.
Crews next moved the fuselage to the wing-to-body join position on the new production line where the first MAXs will be built. Mechanics then attached the wings to the body of the airplane.
The wings feature Boeing's new Advanced Technology winglets. Designed exclusively for the 737 MAX, they will give customers up to 1.8 percent additional fuel-efficiency improvement over today's inline winglet designs.
"Seeing the new winglet design we validated in the wind tunnel years ago now on the first new airplane is incredible," said Leverkuhn. "It's just one of the features that differentiate the 737 MAX and make it an amazingly fuel-efficient machine."
Boeing will build the first 737 MAXs exclusively on the new production line in the Renton factory. Once mechanics prove out the production process, the team will extend MAX production to the other two final assembly lines in Renton.
"The opening of a brand new production line in Renton increases our flexibility and capacity, allowing this incredible team to continue to meet our customers' need for the world's most reliable single-aisle airplanes, well into the future," said Scott Campbell, vice president and general manager, 737 program and Renton site leader, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The 737 MAX team remains on track to roll out the first completed 737 MAX by the end of the year and fly it in early 2016. Launch customer Southwest Airlines is scheduled to take delivery of the first 737 MAX in the third quarter of 2017. In total, the 737 MAX family has 2,869 orders from 58 customers worldwide.
